Family Science Night – Wizard's Lab
This Thursday, December 3rd is Family Science Night at Edna Maguire. Come any time between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. to the multipurpose room for a real treat.
A ball floats and spins in midair, fingers pass through a seemingly solid object, words whispered into a metal can are heard more than 10 feet away — these are just a few of the weird and wondrous hands-on exhibits found in the Wizard's Lab! As "science wizards," students explore the almost magical properties of matter and energy, participate in high-voltage and subzero experiments, and figure out how things really work in the fun-, fact-, and phenomenon-filled world of physics!
This event is hands-on, Open House style, and appropriate for K-5.
Book Fair Thanks
Thank you to the Edna Maguire community for supporting the Book Fair. Our school library will receive 20% of the proceeds from book sales and 100% of the raffle ticket sales. We raised about $6,000 through Lafayette Book Store sales, and about $745 in raffle ticket sales. After expenses, the Book Fair made about $6,400! Very good news! Huge thanks to all our volunteers!

Hot Lunch Update
Check out new hot lunch menu items this month from Revolution Foods, which offers affordable, healthy, and often organic options for school lunch. Lasagna and soup are now available, and pasta is always popular on a cold day! Thank you for supporting this terrific program. A percentage of the profits benefit the PTA and your kids receive a healthy lunch!
If your children order lunch only occasionally, please remind them of the days they are to receive lunch. Our printed reports are divided by class only for kindergarten and first grades; older kids pick up their own lunches in the multipurpose room. The new, more simplified menu makes volunteering easier than ever. We are looking for volunteers every other Monday or Tuesday.
Toys for Tots
In keeping with tradition, Edna Maguire is sponsoring a toy drive for the holiday season. This year we are collaborating with Toys for Tots. We ask that Edna Maguire families donate one or more unwrapped toys for children between the ages of 2 and 14. The donations barrels in the front office will remain until Monday, December 16th.
As a reminder, the gifts need to be New, Unopened and Unwrapped. Any donation is welcome, but please consider two age categories that are often overlooked: infants and preteens. No teddy bears, please. For more information, contact Erin Griffis.
Marin Food Bank
The Edna Maguire office also has two donation boxes for the Marin Food Bank in the front office. Please donate cans or boxes of the non-perishable items needed most. Thank you!

Curb Appeal, December 5th
The Beautification Committee invites you to help Edna get ready for winter this Saturday, December 5th, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at our annual Winter Beautification Day, sponsored by the first grade. All big and little hands are welcome – there are jobs for everyone. Contact Laura Figueirinhas for more information.
Box Tops for Education
Yes, Edna Maguire collects Box Tops! And you can help! Just look for the bright pink label on a variety of products, including Gogurt, Bisquick, Gold Medal Flour, Cheerios, Pull-ups, and a variety of other General Mills, Pillsbury, Old El Paso, and Betty Crocker products. Clip the pink coupons from boxes and turn them in to the school office, where we will collect and send them in for cash. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents and they add up quickly – especially if every family is on the hunt for these treasures!

In January we will be printing a list of all Kiddo! donors in the PTA Newsletters. If you would like to be included, we must receive your gift or payment arrangements by December 31st. We will also be printing our stationery that includes the names of our Honor Roll Donors, who have given $3,000 or more for the current school year. Again, if you would like to be included on this list as well, we need to receive your gift or payment arrangements by December 31st. Please call the Kiddo! office at 389-7794 for more information.
Does your company match gifts for charitable contributions? Many companies match a portion or all of their employees' charitable gifts. Check with your human resources department to see if yours is one of them. You could double your donation to Kiddo!
Do you give your annual Kiddo! donation through payroll deduction or United Way? If so, please contact the Kiddo! office at 389-7789 and let us know so we can send you a decal! Sometimes notification from businesses and United Way can be delayed, and we want to thank you for your gift.
