Safe Routes to Schools: Golden Sneaker Contest
November kicked off the start of Edna's Golden Sneaker Contest. The classes compete for the GS Trophy awarded for the most students walking, biking and carpooling in each of three months (Nov, Jan and March) and overall. The kids really love this contest, so thanks for helping them find ways to participate. If you'd like to reach your neighborhood's SchoolPool organizer for carpooling, email dcole3@sbcglobal.net.

Steeplechase Pledge Packets Due
Valerie Lindsay, Steeplechase Coordinator, and the entire Steeplechase Committee want to thank Edna's families for their efforts in making the 2007 Steeplechase a fun and successful fundraiser. In the next couple of weeks, a final total of the money raised at this year's event will be publicized. Before an accurate accounting can be completed, we want to give everyone an opportunity to get their pledge packets turned in. Pledge packets were due last Friday, November 2nd, but we are still checking the school office for last minute collections, so please turn those packets in if they are still lingering around your household.
Again, thank you for supporting your PTA's major fundraiser. We couldn't have done it without all of you participating in the classrooms, moving course materials, passing out popsicles, selling post-run food and drink and, of course, being there to cheer your child on!
Prismatic Science/Laser Show – SAVE THE DATE!
1-5 Assembly
Thursday, Dec. 6 • 1:30pm – 2:30pm
All School Family Science/Laser Show Evening Event
Dec. 6 • 6:30pm – 7:30pm
Day time Assembly: American Pride, 1:30-2:30
A perfect blend of pop/rock music and patriotic songs, American Pride features uplifting songs, such as America the Beautiful (Ray Charles), Bless the USA (Lee Greenwood), and Fanfare to the Common Man (Aaron Copland). The program captures the ideals that make our nation great: liberty, diversity, and exploration of the unknown. Laser imagery includes famous national symbols and landmarks, such as the Lincoln Memorial, Mt. Rushmore, and the Statue of Liberty. Great any time of the year, but especially effective around Constitution Day (Sept 17), Veterans Day (Nov 11), Presidents Day (late Feb), Memorial Day (late May), Flag Day (June 14), and Independence Day (July 4).
Evening/Family Night: Winter Wonderland, 6:30-7:30
Brighten-up the dark, gray days of winter with a dazzling laser show. Enjoy a great blend of current pop music along with classic winter titles, such as Let it Snow, Jingle Bell Rock, and Sleigh Ride. The Winter Holiday Celebration is 100% nondenominational – i.e., there are no musical or visual references to Christmas (or Santa Claus), Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, etc. Laser animations consist of surreal winter landscapes, winter sports, and the ever-popular misadventures of Squeaky the Penguin.

PTA Hot Lunch Thanks from the Hot Lunch Volunteer Coordinator
As an experienced Edna parent, I am thankful not to have to pack lunch everyday.
As PTA Hot Lunch Volunteer Coordinator, I am thankful for our dependable, efficient, first-rate parent volunteers. My co-chairs and PTA Co-Presidents Tracy Ginther, Lisa Church, Katrina Kehl, Mari Allen, and Deb Luster spent valuable time (even over the summer) attending meetings to coordinate this program. It hasn't been easy, and I couldn't ask for better people with whom to work.
Then, there are the thirty or more parents who step up to expedite the daily lunch orders. They volunteer 2 to 4 hours a month and let me schedule them 9 months in advance. Now that's commitment! Thank you to: Annie Asch, Margaret Krivoruchko, Annie Fretes, Tina Taylor, Annie Peters, Dorothy O'Donnell, Kirsten Treais, Janet Fox, Amy Lester, Cate Elsten, Michelle Zimmermann, Dominique Stevens, Steph Ryder, Eileen Immethun, Lisa and Dean Church, and Saor Stetler. We are so lucky at Edna to have your consistent presence.
Appreciation also goes to Christine del Castillo, Neysa Furey Peters, Deb Luster, Karen Stromfield, and Sarah Suloff who have also served lunch these last few months, and agreed to be back-ups. Other willing support came from Marie Cardinal, Nancy Nakae, Kristen Silmore, Debbie Friedman, Julie Kennedy, and Amy Sherman. I apologize if you have volunteered, and your name is not listed — THANK YOU!
Edna is such a great school because of parents like you. I have met interesting, wonderful people, many of whom are as busy as me; giving the school their last spare moments. I couldn't ask for a better group of volunteers.
If you would like to volunteer for one of Edna's largest fundraisers (raising about $12,000 in the first quarter!), please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kiddo! NEWS:
Donations Needed – Kiddo! Annual Campaign
Kiddo!'s annual campaign for this school year is drawing to a close. With only 54% Kindergarten through 5th grade family participation, we still have a long way to go. Follow-up phone calls will begin soon. Help us save money and volunteer time by making your donation now. Go to www.kiddo.org or call 389-7789. Thank you for putting the exclamation point on your child's education!
Does your company match gifts for charitable contributions? Many companies match a portion or all of their employees' charitable gifts. Check with your human resources department to see if yours is one of them. You could double your donation to Kiddo!
Do you give your annual Kiddo! donation through payroll deduction or United Way? If so, please contact the Kiddo! office at 389-7789 and let us know so we can send you a decal! Sometimes notification from businesses and United Way can be delayed, and we want to thank you for your gift.
Kiddo! happily accepts stock transfers! If you would like to make a donation to Kiddo! by a stock transfer, please contact the office at 389-7789 for more information.
Phonathon
The Kiddo! follow-up phonathon is November 13, 15, 18 and 19! From 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., we will be contacting parents we haven't heard from to let them know their donations are still needed. Please call Robin Moses at 381-5795 or email us at info@kiddo.org if you can join us. Pizza is included!
In January we will be printing a list of all Kiddo! donors in the PTA Newsletters. If you would like to be included, we must receive your gift or payment arrangements by December 31. We will also be printing our stationery that includes the names of our major donors (those who have given $2500 or above for the current school year) soon after. Again, if you would like to be included on this list as well, we need to receive your gift or payment arrangements by December 31. Please call the Kiddo! office at 389-7789 for more information.

Attention Sales and Marketing Types—
Help us Make a Difference!
Kiddo is seeking fresh talent to help re-launch and rejuvenate our annual Business Campaign. Currently the campaign generates approximately $170,000 from local businesses, or about 13% of annual Kiddo! revenues. We're confident we can increase this share through strategic planning and careful account targeting and cultivation.
Our Business Committee is looking for volunteers with sales and marketing experience or aptitude. Each volunteer will work independently as an account manager, but the Committee will meet approximately once a quarter to review overall strategy and results. On average we would not expect the work to exceed more than several hours a month.
Please consider this opportunity to tap your professional skills in a convivial setting and support Kiddo!'s great art and music programs for your kids. For more information, please call Deborah Dilley, Business Committee Co-chair at 871-1122 or contact the Kiddo! office (info@kiddo.org; 389-7789).
