School Board Meeting
Thanks to all the students, parents, families and staff that gathered together last Wednesday night at the board meeting in support of our garden. Kindergarten parent Saor Stetler spoke directly to the board about the passion, educational purpose, and outdoor learning opportunities that encompass our magical garden. Several other parents had an opportunity to speak as well, and we presented a petition signed by our families.

Picture Retake – October 26
Please bring back the picture packet that you don’t want, uncut. If your child was not here for picture day and you would like their picture taken, you can find payment envelopes in the office. Questions? Please call the office at 389-7733.

Halloween Parade – Wednesday, October 31
Students may bring their costumes to school to participate in our annual Halloween Parade. Kindergarten students will parade through all the first through fifth grade classrooms and then return to their classrooms. Students may not bring any kind of toy weapons as part of their costume.

Kindergarten parade from 12:40 to 1:00 p.m.
First – fifth grade parade from 1:05 to 1:45 p.m.

Tonight: PTA Council to Host Candidates' Forum
The Mill Valley PTA Council is sponsoring a School Board Candidates' Forum tonight (Monday, October 15) from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The forum will take place at the Park School multipurpose room at 60 East Blithedale Ave.

All three candidates – Janet Miller, Judy Sherman, and Nejat Duzgunes – will be attending. The League of Women Voters will provide a moderator and timekeeper for the forum. Each candidate will make an opening statement, to be followed by questions from the audience. The forum will end with a brief closing statement from each candidate. The forum is open to the public.

Terrific Tuesday – Pacific Catch
This Tuesday’s opportunity to eat out and raise money for Edna is at Pacific Catch in Corte Madera. Hopefully everyone has received a Diners Club card by now. When presented to the food servers Edna will receive 15% of the bill. It is such a great and easy way for families to contribute to our school's fundraising efforts. Eat out OR take out!

Steeplechase Permission Slips
Our Steeplechase Lap-A-thon is this Friday! Each child needs a permission slip in order to participate. We have more than 100 students who do not currently have permission to participate. If your child does not have a signed permission slip to participate they will have to wait along the course and cheer their friends on. Please go to the link below to get a permission slip and turn it in to your child’s teacher ASAP or fax it to Edna Maguire at 389-7776. Click here to download the Steeplechase permission slip.

Annual Disaster Drill – Wednesday, October 24 at 12:45 p.m.
Students and staff will participate in our disaster drill along with all the other schools in the district. Students practice duck and cover, exiting the building, and lining up. Staff practices their roles in areas such as first aide, student release, search and rescue, command center, etc. Any volunteers on campus during this drill must report to the volunteer/command center table. You will be instructed where to go to assist in the drill.

Book Fair: "A Winter Wonderland of Books"
Edna's annual book fair will be held November 26 through 30, featuring an assortment of great books for all ages. This is Edna Maguire's biggest fundraiser to help support our library, to make sure our children have all the latest and greatest books. Look for your teacher's wish lists at the Book Fair – this is an easy way to find a gift your child's teacher will appreciate. Look for your child's wish list – they'll be bringing them home next month! We are still looking for volunteers. E-mail Jill Anderson at jajand@comcast.net or call 388-7455.

October is here with gray skies and cool winds.
