SCHOOL NEWS
Earth Week Roundup
What an incredible Earth Week and Garden Week at our school. View some wonderful pictures of the ladybug release. A great big thank you to all the families who helped out at the garden work parties, and thank you to Bruce and Linda Berlinger, Eileen Immethun, Sheila Brear, and the Allen family for working on Edna beautification on Saturday. The school and garden look amazing. Thank you to all parents who helped out and who helped us prepare for our first ever Farmers Market that night at the Tam Community Center. We are trying to become a self-sustaining garden to the extent we can, and the farmers market appearance will be a wonderful opportunity.
On Thursday morning, 400 students, parents and guests released more than 100,000 ladybugs into our wonderful organic children's garden. It was a fabulous lesson in organic gardening for our children. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped organize the event and to The Loop, 24 Hour Fitness, and Sloat. The press coverage of the ladybug release was terrific, and if you haven’t seen the article and video on the San Francisco Chronicle website, click here.
Thank you, too, for purchasing our plants to purchase fruit trees for our sister garden at Ziwani Primary in Kenya through www.ftpf.org.
Variety Show This Wednesday
Please join us for an evening of entertainment by the kids of Edna! See the Showbiz Kidz this Wednesday, April 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room for music, dance, tae kwon do, gymnastics, dog tricks, and more. The concession stand opens at 5:00 p.m. with food, popcorn, and home baked goods. Proceeds to benefit stage upgrades and drama at Edna.
The Edna Calendar is Online
Did you know that you can see and print a calendar of Edna’s events from our website? You can even add it to your computer’s Google calendar. There are monthly and weekly views, and you can click on the Print icon to get your own hard copy.
Microwave Needed
A microwave is needed for the multipurpose room. If you have a spare microwave in good working order, the PTA could use it. Ours is on its last legs. The lunch program uses it to heat up extra food for kids who are missing lunch, and the PTA uses its it for its various functions. If you would like to donate your microwave, please contact Katrina Kehl at kkehl@pacbell.net.
Campbell's Labels for Education
Did you know that you can redeem Campbell’s UPCs and beverage caps to earn free educational equipment for Edna? Click here for more information.
KIDDO!
As you know, our school district faces a serious funding gap for the upcoming school year as a result of state budget cuts and the costs of the continuing increase in student enrollment. As the school district’s primary fundraising organization, Kiddo! has committed to raising an additional $250,000 this year to save our library and classroom aides from budget cuts. We all know how important these individuals are to our students and their daily school experience. I thank each of you in advance for your participation in Kiddo!’s fundraising efforts this year – together we can protect the quality education our students deserve!
Donation Day – May 1. Please join in kicking off Kiddo!’s 2008 Annual Giving Campaign on May 1. This year Kiddo! must raise $750 or more per student to cover the costs of programs and services provided. Every donation counts! Your 2008 contribution will help save library and classroom aides, as well as preserve the vital arts and technology programs our children receive. Giving is easy, just Drop, Click or Mail:
Drop – you’ll find donation drop boxes at each school, making it fast and easy to make your contribution
Click – make your donation online at www.kiddo.org
Mail – send your donation to Kiddo! at 409 Sycamore Ave. Mill Valley, CA 94941
Please give as generously as you can on May 1 and help our schools receive the additional funding they need in these difficult economic times. With your support, we can do it!
