New PTA Lunch Program
The PTA Lunch Program is excited to announce that we will be teaming with a full meal provider, Revolution Foods, to provide delicious, healthy, and organic meals this spring.
- All meals consist of an entrée, fresh vegetable, fresh organic fruit, and milk or soy milk. Each day, there is a choice of four entrees: meat-based, vegetarian, dairy-free, and sandwich.
- Organic and locally produced ingredients are used whenever possible; over 60 percent of ingredients are organic. All meat is hormone- and antibiotic-free and all milk is rbST- and hormone-free.
- Food is made fresh daily, and no fried, processed, or reheated food is served.
- Click here to read more about Revolution Foods and the homestyle, kid-friendly, healthy meals they provide.
Here’s how you order:
- Menus for the next session (March 25th through the last day of school) will be in the Wednesday folders on February 27th. Order forms are due March 7th.
- The order forms will resemble a calendar. Each day will have a choice of meat-based, vegetarian, dairy-free, and sandwich entrées. All lunches include a fresh vegetable, organic fruit, and milk. Order only the meals and days your child wants. All meals are $4.25.
- One Friday each month we will offer Stefano’s pizza as a lunch option with fruit and milk.
Want to try the food?
Revolution Foods will be at Edna Maguire on Wednesday, February 27th from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. to present food for tasting. They will have a tables at the front of the school and in the back parking area. Please come and try their delicious food.
Lunch Help Needed ASAP! Subs and Fridays
Our current PTA hot lunch program is in need of extra volunteers as soon as possible. Here’s the status:
- More than 30 Kindergarten students order pizza on Fridays and we need a third volunteer from 11:15 to 11:50 a.m. to wrap and deliver the slices. You could come in every week or every other week depending on your availability.
- If you are not available Fridays, we could also use you as back-up help to come in other days as needed from 11:00 a.m. to noon-ish and help an experienced volunteer load crates.
- If you can help out, please contact me. I apologize if you have sent me your information in the past and I have misplaced it. This is a big program, and I appreciate all the wonderful people that make it happen!
Without volunteers, we will have to cut back on the days that hot lunch is available! The spring session should be a simplified after we implement the new lunch program. In the meantime, please consider helping out. Currently twenty volunteers work between one and four hours a month. The average is just two hours a month.

K/1 Grade Play Structure Update
The play structure has been purchased and is in storage on our site. We hope to demolish the current structure and install the new one over Spring Break in April.
Here is where we stand financially:
- We currently have about $14,000 in our play structure donation fund.
- $8,000 has been promised by the MVSD.
- We have about $5,000 in promised donations.
- See's Candy sales raised approximately $2,700.
- We are now about $5,000 away from our total goal!
Thank you to those who have contributed. It has been a long year of fundraising, and we are so grateful to our Edna community for your help. If you have yet to make a donation and are interested in getting us to our finish line, please make a check payable to Edna Maguire PTA with memo: K/1 Play Structure and drop it off in the office.
Spirit Day This Friday
This Friday, February 15th, is Sports Day, when students and teachers can wear paraphernalia from their favorite sports team or teams. This may include hats, jerseys, shirts, sweatshirts, you name it! Last year we even had a few students come dressed in their baseball uniforms.

Art Show Thanks
We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all of the Art Show volunteers: Shaila de Leede, Claudia von Welczeck, Courtney Wimmer, Jody Branham, Daria Painter, James Newman, Nicole Ferguson, Heather Miller, and Michelle Zimmerman. We could not have done it without you! Also we would like to thank our wonderful art teachers Jackie Lalanne, Katie Mostert, and Amy Faulkner, whose guidance and love of art brings out the artist in all of our children. A huge thank you to Committee Chairs Teresa Baradaran and Negissa Araghi for their incredible dedication to making this event such a success!
Pictures from the First Graders’ Science Unit
As part of their current weather unit, the first grade classes had science specialist Camilla Barry join them for an investigation into the power of wind. The first graders studied the Beaufort Wind Scale and discussed the various forces of wind. They made their own wind finders and measured the wind in various places on campus. Click here to see some great pictures from the day. They look like they are learning a lot and having a great time. Great job first graders!
Green Team Assembly
Our own Edna Maguire Green Team, a wonderful and motivated group of 4th and 5th graders, will be presenting an assembly on Tuesday, February 26th (grades 1-3 at 9:30 a.m., grades 4 and 5 at 10:15 a.m.). The focus of the assembly is bringing the 5Rs to Edna (Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot). Edna parent Saor Stetler is preparing a slide show to start the presentation, and the Green Team will perform an original skit.
They will demonstrate the new "5R Station," which will be used at the end of lunchtime each day. Edna is encouraging a Pack-In/Pack-out program coupled with recycling and composting, and each class will be receiving a compost bucket to use in the classroom.
Kiddo! Thanks You
Thank you to all Edna Maguire families who have donated to Kiddo! for the 2007-08 Annual Campaign. See the list of all Edna donors this year. We couldn’t do it without you!
