Family Math Night on Thursday, January 22
Come to the multipurpose room on Thursday, January 22nd from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. to participate in one of Lawrence Hall of Science's most popular programs, Build It! Participants exercise their design, problem-solving, and spatial skills by constructing in two and three dimensions. Our Edna Maguire students will bring the creativity! This event is for all grade levels and their families.

Parent volunteers needed! If you are interested in overseeing a table activity, please email Lisa Zimmer at lzimmer@mvschools.org. All volunteers will need to be in the multipurpose room at 5:00 p.m. for set-up – children welcome!

Hot Lunch News
The February hot lunch menu is now available. New this month: Pasta with Butter and Cheese, new and improved Nachos, Cream of Tomato Soup with a sourdough roll, Clam Chowder with a sourdough roll, and a few other new menu choices. The Turkey or Ham and Cheese Sub Sandwiches and the Chicken, Vegetable Noodle Soup have gotten rave reviews! To order, click here or go to the Edna website and click on the Revolution Foods logo. Please make sure you are up-to-date on your lunch payments after you place your order by checking the account balance against your future orders. The lunch program is our second largest fundraiser and all funds benefit the children at Edna.

Support Your Children’s Garden at Sloat Garden Center
Attention all Mill Valley Children's Garden supporters: Sloat Garden Center is sponsoring Growing Up Green Week, January 16th through 26th. Bring in our Edna flyer and Sloat will donate a percentage of your purchase to the Garden. The higher our participation, the greater the benefit! Thanks to you, the fall Growing Up Green Week raised $175 in Sloat gift cards for the Garden.

Consider planting some trees (now is a great time to take advantage of the rain to encourage a good root system) or picking up some tools or furniture. Thanks for supporting the Garden!

Interactive Art Show – New Dates
On February 6th through 12th, Edna Maguire will host the Interactive Art Show in the multipurpose room. See the complete schedule for individual classroom activities. The show culminates on the evening of Tuesday, February 10th, when all projects will be on display for everyone to see and enjoy. Please note that there will be a PTA Executive Board and Association Meeting in the teachers' lounge at 6:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The Art Show reception begins at 6:30 p.m.

Kudos

Teachers' Holiday Luncheon: Thank you to everyone who helped turn the teachers' lounge into a winter wonderland for the teachers' holiday luncheon. The party was a wonderful success and couldn't have been possible without each and everyone of the following people: decorators Mari Allen, Teresa Baradaran, Katrina Kehl, and Deb Luster; Courtney Wimmer and Michelle Zimmermann; balloon suppliers Amy Bonetti-Price and Margaret Krivoruchko; drink ladies Shaila de Leede, Jen Levine, Christina Friedman, and Courtney Phleger; and foodies Mari Allen, Kelly Fullerton-Bloom, Anne Fretes, Christina Friedman, Ahtossa Fullerton, Katrina Kehl, Jen Levine, Julie McCrady, Karen Olson, and Michelle Zimmermann. A huge thank you to Suzie and Gordon Drysdale for their generous Pizza Antica discount! This entire magical event could not have been possible without the hard work and creative energy of the amazing Michelle Zimmermann. Thank you all!

Volunteer Cleanup: A big thank you to the many who showed up on Saturday, January 3rd for our Kick Off the New Year Volunteer Cleanup at Edna. We had so much fun on a beautiful day, and the school looked great when we were done. Among the many volunteers were the fantastic Carolyn and Joe Preis, the incredible Dan Kelly, the stunning Lisa Gilmore, the always reliable Katrina Kehl, the amazing team of Yoni and Steve Cassel, the always helpful Sheila Brear, and the ever dependable Bruce Cardinal and Garrett Lawrence. This community building effort would not have been possible without the steady leadership of Bruce Berlinger. You will have another chance to participate when we have our spring cleaning event. Please consider joining in the fun next time and make a difference and make new friends!

Book Fair Update
Lafayette Book Store will be sending our school a check for $5390.72 (20 percent of our total sales), which is almost $900 more than the 2007 Book Fair raised. In these economic times and with one less day to shop, we are grateful for those of you supported the Book Fair. All proceeds from the Fair will go directly to our school library. Thanks once again to Mari Allen and Jessica Ryan for such an amazing event!

Garden News
We recently purchased two owl boxes to invite barn owls into our ecosystem. Barn owls are voracious predators of rodents such as rats, mice, gophers, and moles. Learn more at hungryowl.org. We hope to get the boxes installed soon.

Mark your calendars for the annual Spring Fest on Sunday, May 31st.  We need volunteers, as this is one of our garden’s biggest fundraisers.  Please contact coordinators Jen Sheets (jmsheetz@hotmail.com) and Barbara Bleckman (barbaracrampton@comcast.net) if you can help out.

Please let your children know that the Garden Club meets informally every Thursday at lunch in the garden. Teacher Carrie Morgan supervises, and Rebecca from "Next Generation" helps  every other Thursday with garden projects. All grade levels are welcome.

KIDDO! NEWS

Congratulations! 2008 Annual Giving Campaign
Meets Fundraising Goal
Thank you to all of the wonderful parents, grandparents, local businesses, and community members who helped us reach our $1.6 million* 2008 Annual Campaign fundraising goal for the 2008-09 school year. In these difficult economic times, it is heartening to see our community continue to invest in our childrens' education. Across the district we recorded over 70-percent family participation, and we look forward to increasing our participation rate in 2009. Working together, we will continue to provide the vital arts programs and classroom teaching support our students deserve.

*If your family has an outstanding pledge for the 2008 campaign, we still need your payment to meet our commitment to the District to pay for our programs and teachers.

SAVE THE DATE:
Kiddo! Spring Gala – March 14, 2009

Mark your calendars for the Kiddo! Spring Gala on March 14 at the Mill Valley Community Center. This is one of the best events in town, so please join us for a fun night of dining and dancing to the fantastic band, "The Unauthorized Rolling Stones." We will also have a live auction, a silent auction, and an on-line auction. All proceeds from the Spring Gala benefit the Kiddo! Endowment. The Auction Committee is busy gathering wonderful items for the Auction, but we need the help of the entire parent community. Can you help with any of the following?

Wine collectors! Consider donating a wine vertical, a big bottle or a specially engraved bottle

Food Lovers! We’re looking for families with connections to restaurants or chefs who can help us put together dining gift certificates, a private dining experience for a group of people with a known chef, a cooking class for a group, or any other fun food experience

Travelers! Have some miles to use up, or maybe an available vacation home, timeshare, or a hotel contact?

Sports Fans! Do you or your friends have access to sporting event tickets, luxury boxes, or sports memorabilia?

Connections! Do you know someone in the movie industry, TV or radio? People love to bid on the behind the scenes tours or autographed items.

A copy of the Auction Donation Form is posted on our website. If you or anyone you know can help us with these items, please submit the auction donor form or contact one of our Silent Auction chairs: Kelly Reade (383-8886 ksreade@comcast.net) or Ahtossa Fullerton (380-1803 ahtossa@hotmail.com). Thank you and see you at the Spring Gala!
