The second annual Kiddo! gallery show, “Celebrating the Arts in our Schools,” features children’s poetry and visual art from the Mill Valley Schools in the 142 Throckmorton Theatre throughout May. Congratulations to the following Edna students for their inclusion in the poetry and art show: first graders David Hampton, Cal Mitchell, Olivia Chamberlain; second graders Maddie Asch, Ian Pratt, and Joe Rico; fourth graders Claire Philippides, Lea Anderson, Taylor Hicks, and Reed Felder; and fifth graders Dani Budish, Amanda Faubel, Ariel Cacic, and Haley Fretes.

Congratulations also to the following Edna students for having their artwork displayed at the Mill Valley Library: Gary Griffis, Faryn Thomure, Jacob Cohn, Arman Araghi, Shayda Bakhtiari, and Danielle Budish. A rotating group of artwork from students at all five elementary schools will be on display through May 15.

PTA Lunch Survey
We need your feedback! Your child will be receiving a brief survey about the PTA lunch program in this week’s Wednesday folder. You can also click here to download a copy of the flyer. In an effort to continue improving the program, we need your comments on how to improve the food and menu choices. We’d also like to hear your suggestions on menu additions for the new school year. Help us provide your child with the healthy, delicious food they want. Please return the survey to your classroom by May 19.

Walk and Roll Day Thursday, May 15
This Thursday, May 15th, is the last monthly Walk and Roll to School Day of the year. Let's all turn out in big numbers! There will be press there to cover the event. Be sure to get a sticker so we can count how many participated. Click here (pdf) for more information on the event and meeting places. Walk And Roll, Edna! Questions, ask Lisa at lgilmore@iapsf.com.

Fourth Grade Bike Rodeo Safe Routes to Schools
On Thursday, May 15th, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., the fourth graders will be learning about biking safety in a fun, educational Bike Rodeo from Safe Routes to Schools. If possible, please send bikes and helmets to school with all fourth graders that day. Reply to Deb Cole with questions or to help out at dcole3@sbcglobal.net.

When Sex is the Subject
Wondering how to answer your children’s questions in an age appropriate manner? Come to this informative, humorous, and interactive presentation that helps parents address some of the challenges in talking to their kids about this subject. This presentation will be led by Steve Gardner, Family Education Specialist on Tuesday, May 20th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room. This talk is ideal for parents of third through fifth graders but all parents welcome. Please RSVP to Katrina Kehl at kkehl@pacbell.net. To download a pdf of the flyer with full information for the event, click here.

Garden News
Thank you to Bruce Cardinal who repaired and replaced the irrigation and cleaned up the front area of the "rose room" in the garden. The roses are now on emitters, which is very water efficient. Thank you, Bruce!

The Spring Garden Tour and Festival is coming up on June 1. If you can volunteer to help out, please contact Lee Budish at lbudish@comcast.net.

You can now see NBC channel 11’s video of our ladybug release. It’s a great piece!

Board Meeting Awards
Three of our teachers are being honored at the MVSD Board Meeting this Wednesday, May 14th, at 6:30 p.m. Christy Herrmann and Susan Johnson are being recognized as they are retiring at the end of this school year. Lisa Stapp is being recognized for receiving the Golden Bell Award and the Elizabeth Terwilliger Award. You are welcome to attend the Board Meeting in the District Office to show your support and gratitude for these outstanding educators.

REMINDERS

Muffins with Mom
This Friday morning is Muffins with Mom, from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room. Volunteer husbands will joyfully greet everyone and serve muffins, coffee, juice, milk and fruit. Do not miss the fun and opportunity to rub shoulders with the important behind the scenes school operators: the Moms! For more information or to volunteer, please contact Rob Luster (RLuster@luster.com).

Towel Drive
Please bring in your gently used bath or beach towels this week to be used in classroom emergency kit bags. Edna’s first grade Brownie Troop #30768 has been busy organizing this drive, making posters, and decorating the collection box in the school office. The gear inside the emergency bags is entirely PTA funded and maintained and will help our children get through an emergency situation until medical help arrives. Any questions, please contact Lucy Hampton at lucyhampton@comcast.net.

Are You Ready for an Emergency?
A Get Ready Marin presentation will be held Thursday, May 29th from 8:40 to 10:40 a.m. in the multipurpose room. Please RSVP to Mari Allen (allenmari@hotmail.com) by Wednesday, May 21st. Mike Maguire, a member of the Southern Marin Fire Get Ready program, will cover the basics of emergency preparedness.

KIDDO!

Kiddo! Annual Giving Campaign –
Off To A Great Start!

THANK YOU to the 400+ families who have already made their 2008 Kiddo! Contribution. The $700,000 received to date is a fantastic start to raising the $1.9 million needed to save library and classroom aides from budget cuts, as well as fund our award-winning art, music, drama, dance, poetry and technology programs for the 2008-09 school year.

For the 1,300 families who have not yet donated, please remember that we need everyone’s help to ensure that these programs are in place for your children next year! The follow-up phone calls begin soon – donating now will help Kiddo! save time and money so more funding can go to the kids. Don’t forget to:

DROP your donation in the Kiddo! box at your school
CLICK on www.kiddo.org and make your donation online
MAIL your donation to Kiddo! at 409 Sycamore Avenue

Thanks in advance for your generous support in these difficult financial times for our schools!

Parent Coffee
Wednesday, May 14th, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at 405 Wendy Way
Parents of children with learning differences face many challenges. Our coffees provide a chance for parents to share information and support each other. Please join us and tell a friend! Next year, our coffees will be monthly, on Fridays. If you have questions, please contact Caron Stapleton (caronstapleton@comcast.net, 383-1192).

Change of Location for Playgroup!
Our playgroup is changing its location to Kay Park. (Directions: From Tam Junction, follow Shoreline/CA-1 towards the beach for 0.2 miles. Turn left onto Ross Drive. Go 0.1 miles to arrive at Kay Park. Look for the path to the park.) This playgroup is a great chance for kids who have a hard time making friends to interact with other children in a supportive environment. Won’t you join us? Contact Pam Sowerby (psowerby@comcast.net, 380-9680).

Shop Mill Valley Market and Support
