Thanks to everyone that volunteered and supported the Fall
Harvest Festival this past weekend. Turnout was low but those that
attended enjoyed themselves. Dedicated volunteers sold our new, organic
"Proud Sponsor of the Mill Valley Children's Garden" tote bags; painted
children's faces; sold baked goods, popcorn and lemonade; sold pumpkins and
kid-made crafts; hosted a "guess the pumpkin's weight" contest; and hosted a
live auction for the beautiful and creative class-made Holiday Wreaths.
Prior to the Fest, volunteers publicized the event in the Mill Valley Herald
and the Marin IJ and hung posters around town, while others baked tons of
goodies and obtained donated pumpkins to sell at the Fest. Overall,
festival goers raised $855 for the Children's Garden.
Due to the low turnout, we auctioned 8 of the Holiday Wreaths
and saved the other 12 for silent auction this week. The remaining
wreaths (from Class A, B, C, D, 1, 5, 7, 12, 14, 15, 18 and 20) are displayed
in the front office and silent auction bid sheets are on the counter for
bidding. The minimum bid is $50 per wreath and the minimum bid increment
is $2.00. The bidding will conclude on Thursday, October 30 at 3:00
pm. So support the Children's Garden and take home a great Holiday
Wreath. Thanks to all of the teachers, parents and students for
contributing these unique crafts to this garden fundraiser.
Also, we have 17 pumpkins left for sale. If you
would like to buy one please contact me (sstetler@earthlink.net).
Pumpkins are $10 and all proceeds benefit the garden. Any remaining
pumpkins will be on sale this Thursday for a special Farmer's Market which will
also feature the new organic garden bags, hand-made rose sachets (using dried
rose petals from the garden - great as gifts), and garden greens.

Located in Mill Valley, California, at Edna Maguire Public Elementary School, the Mill Valley Children's Garden is a 1/3 acre outdoor classroom laboratory. The garden is a hands-on treasure for both curriculum-based teaching and exploratory creative experimentation - it is a "textbook come to life." Through the Children's Garden, children learn botany, ecology, math, science, language arts, creative arts, stewardship of the land, community service, and much more.
The Children's Garden is a grassroots, volunteer effort by the parents, faculty and community of Mill Valley. The garden operates through private funds and donations and is supported by the Edna Maguire PTA - a 501 3 (c).
Are you a parent of an Edna Maguire student interested in volunteering to help with the Mill Valley Children's Garden? Click here for more information, or contact Saor Stetler. Green thumbs are not required - all that is needed is a desire to have fun with the children in the garden while observing the cycles of nature.
