Here is important information about the lock down drill at Edna Maguire this morning (Thursday, November 1).
Dear Parents/Guardians and School District Staff,
The following important information was shared with me this morning by the Mill Valley Police Department.
The Mill Valley Police Department directed Edna Maguire School to lock down the campus at 8:30 AM this morning as there had been a report of a suspicious person in the neighborhood, specifically at Shell Road and Lomita. One citizen caller reported to have seen a male, approximately 20 years of age, in an orange shirt; and with a holster. The caller reported they saw what 'looked like' a fake or real rifle in the holster. The police and sheriff department immediately responded and erred on the safe side and instructed Edna Maguire, Ring Mountain Day School, Robin's Nest Pre-School and Marin Day School to lock down. At 9:15 AM, MVPD called the District office to inform us they were 'unlocking' the sites as a thorough search of the entire neighborhood and campuses turned up nothing. The lock down was standard protocol and preventive safety procedures instituted by the police department. MVPD will continue to patrol the area throughout the day as a precautionary meas ure and will stay in contact with the District office as necessary.
The Edna Maguire administration and staff are to be commended for their prompt implementation of lock down procedures, which are part of our emergency preparedness procedures.
Sincerely,
Ken Benny,
Superintendent
